India: Round Two

I recently came back from my second trip to India. The first trip took place just the year before when a friend invited me along. She happens to be a lifelong traveler and expert in many things India, so the trip to Rajasthan she organized was beyond my wildest expectations. I was completely enthralled by the cacophony of colors, sights and sounds that I barely knew how to process it all. I was overcome with the desire to photograph and document every single thing in order to remember it all, as I was sure that it would be the last chance I would have to take it all in. Or at least that’s what I told my husband at the time. Just a year later, I found myself telling him I would like to go again, and once again asked him to take sole responsibility for our two children for 2 ½ weeks.

In truth, the second trip allowed me to experience everything more thoughtfully and in a less pressured way. There are so many places in the world I would like to travel that I am often tempted to try something new each time. But there really is something wonderful about having even a little bit of familiarity with a place that allows you to be more relaxed and open so you can do the things you want to do, rather than the things you think you are supposed to do.  And yes, I have already prepared my wonderful husband for the likelihood of a third trip in the not too distant future…
