WHAT WE DO

Types of Projects

Home renovations

Renovations

We update, and transform your home into a modern and elegant space that is tailored to your tastes and lifestyle. We will work from the ground up with attention to every detail. Many homes have been awkwardly laid out, or previously combined in ways that are not ideal. We will bring better flow, storage, and an aesthetically pleasing design to create a home you feel lucky to own.

Apartment combinations

Apartment Combinations

We creatively combine apartments and turn them into unique spaces in which the end result is much more than the sum of the original parts. Our specialty is re-imagining and integrating spaces to optimize them for specific client needs and aesthetic desires, creating a completely custom and distinctive finished product.

Furnishings

Furnishings

Furnishing and styling a room is much like creating a piece of art. We often begin with an inspirational piece or idea, and then select appropriate furnishings that meet your needs and aspirations, and work well together to enhance your rooms. Like a symphony, everything is brought together with rugs, lighting, artwork, and accessories to create a sublime finished space.

OUR PROCESS

How We Work

We want your renovation project to be as stress-free as possible. Depending on its scope, your project will be broken down into several stages — each designed to give you clarity, confidence and a beautiful end result.

A bird's-eye floor plan of a pre-war apartment drawing itself: entry, living and dining room, kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms off a long hallway, with door swing arcs, window breaks and a dimension line.
PHASE ONE

Conceptual Plan

Deborah will help you identify and clarify your vision, establish a realistic budget, and explore what is possible in your space. At the end of this phase, you will have a clear road map and a realistic sense of what to expect going forward.

VISION · BUDGET · ROAD MAP
A dollhouse axonometric of a pre-war apartment with no ceiling, seen from above. Three interior walls lift away one after another, two of them tearing free of short returns left standing where they met walls that stay, opening the living room, dining room and kitchen into one continuous space.
PHASE TWO

Design and Development

Once the preliminary scope and budget are determined, Deborah creates the comprehensive plans needed for the contractor bidding process, permits and approvals, and she coordinates the various professionals and steps needed to do so.

DRAWINGS · APPROVALS · DECISIONS
An isometric drawing of the finished apartment: one connected space with a living room — fireplace, rug, sofa, armchair and coffee table — running without a dividing wall into a kitchen with a run of cabinets, a range and hood, a sink, and an island with three stools tucked along its kitchen side. It ends with a few strokes of firelight.
PHASE THREE

Build

With approvals in hand, her team is ready to execute. Deborah is on site, often several times a week, with the contractor and other trades to ensure that plans and specifications are followed, no question is left unanswered and work is progressing on schedule and on budget. She holds regular meetings with clients to keep them up to date and guides them through important decisions to be made, so she can keep everything moving forward towards a successful and timely completion.

About Deborah

We moved around a lot during my childhood, both in the U.S. and abroad, and I remember how my mother, a very talented interior designer, always transformed each new house. Even when temporary, her thoughtful designs made each house feel like a haven, so an appreciation for good design and an awareness of beautiful spaces are engrained in me.

One of the most important things I learned from living in the spaces she designed is how every aspect, the lighting, colors, flow, and balance, can make us feel things beyond the visual. A primary goal of my work is to make the most of these elements, so that each day when you wake up or come home, your surroundings lift you up and make you feel your very best.

I came to New York City for college and have remained ever since, marrying a fellow world traveler and bringing up two kids along the way. The energy is like nowhere else I've ever been, and the array of design, cultural and other options coupled with the constantly changing streetscapes provide non stop inspiration for me. Just when I think I am tired of it, it engages me all over again. However, when I do need to recharge, I head to our home in rural Connecticut where our nearest neighbors have hundreds of acres, we get fresh milk (and chocolate!) from a nearby dairy farm, hours are spent on the porch, at the lake, or by the fire in the winter, and time just seems to slow down, the perfect antidote to the frenetic pace of the city.

A lifetime of traveling is continuously informing and innovating my work and everywhere I go I am observing, and photographing what I see to draw upon for inspiration. Whether its the earth tones and textures of the mountains, deserts, and canyons of Oman, the kaleidoscope of colors and patterns in the silk saris and block prints of India, the intricately woven carpets of Turkey and Iran, the arabesques of woodwork and tile work of Morocco, the elegance and architectural grandeur of France, or just walking around the streets of New York, and beyond, I am constantly taking it in. Travel takes me out of my comfort zone in a way that gives me greater awareness and appreciation and makes me feel alive. The work I do is also a journey, one which my clients take, with me as their guide, and my team and I take care of all the details so they can relax and enjoy the ride.
